MINISTRIES, PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES
The following is a description of the various groups, programs at St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral Parish. If you would like further information about the programs and services offered at our parish…or would like to volunteer your services in an area of interest to you, please call the rectory at 705-264-0587.
PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK
If you or a family member is seriously ill, have a chronic illness or will be undergoing surgery, please contact the rectory to request anointing and prayers at the church, at home or hospital. Anyone wishing to receive the Eucharist at home is asked to contact the office.
Those who are hospitalized are asked to identify themselves as a Catholic to the hospitals’ Spiritual & Religious Care Team.
LITURGY OF THE WORD
This is the Liturgy of the Word for children in grades 1 to 3 which takes place during the 9:00 a.m. mass.
ALTAR SERVERS
This ministry is open to children in grade 3 or over who have received their First Communion. Adults (both men and women) are encouraged to volunteer to serve mass and other special occasions. Training is available.
MINISTRY OF LECTOR
The coordinator schedules two lectors for each Mass. It is necessary to be a good reader for this ministry and to attend a lector’s workshop. Lectors are expected to have spent time praying over their assigned reading in order to read it intelligently.
EXTRAORDINARY EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
The Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister is involved in helping the presider to distribute Holy Communion during Mass.
MUSIC MINISTRY
This ministry provides music at the weekend Masses for congregational singing and trains song leaders (Cantors) to lead the singing.
USHERS / MINISTERS OF HOSPITALITY
Ministers of hospitality greet parishioners and guests as they come in and help them to find a place if they are late or the church is full. They open and close windows as needed. They take up the collection and direct the congregation at communion time if necessary. They are attentive to anyone needing to use the elevator.
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS TO THE SICK & SHUT-IN
Parishioners who relate well to the sick and the elderly will enjoy this ministry. They will have an opportunity to have a short pastoral visit with one of our homebound parishioners and allowing them the opportunity to receive Holy Communion. Training is provided.
ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE
Enhance liturgical services by decorating the worship space for special occasions, especially for Advent/Christmas season and Lent/Easter season.
